We have encountered one case of pernicious anemia which was characterized by
Vitamin B12 deficiency, macrocyte with norrnoblast(13%), Howell-Jolly
bodies, basophilic stippling, and hypersegmented neutrophils.
Above findings were associated with dizziness, sore tongue, hepatomegaly, numbness
and tingling sense of lower extremities, weight loss, diarrhea, and insidious onset of
anemia. Bone marrow aspiration finding shows basophilic normablast and polychrom
atophilic normoblast hyperplasia and abundunt iron stained cells.
Gastrofiberscopic finding shows atropic gastritis with superficial gastritis over gastric
antrum and pyloric regions.
Schilling test shows Vitamin B12 malabsorption by intrinsic factor
deficiency.
Gastric endoscopic biopsy finding shows chronic atrophic gastritis at gastric antral
region microscopically.
